Me and a Meme

I’m bored and still sick. I have a head cold, again…thankfully, it’s not as bad as the one I had after Christmas, but bad enough that I want to curl up in a ball and sleep. I didn’t get much sleep last night. Darling Hubby wasn’t feeling that great and when he got up around midnight to take a bath, I, wide awake, curled up with my book and read for about 45 minutes. After Darling Hubby came back to bed, I ended up tossing and turning for much of the night, mostly thanks to my congestion, and Bug decided he was still going to get up at 7:30 (which is around his normal time) even though I was hoping he’d sleep in. At least he played in his room with his toys so I could catch a few more winks before having to get up to walk the dogs. Right now I have a slight headache (I’m sure from my nasal congestion), my nose is all ticklish and feels like I’m constantly going to sneeze and it’s hard to breath, and my ears are stopped up making everything sound like I’m walking around with a fish bowl filled with jello on my head.

I have to go to the dentist tomorrow…I’m getting my teeth cleaned (it’s been too many years) and afterward I’ll be getting at least 3 teeth filled (the one I broke, one with a visible cavity, and one other that has a cavity between the teeth.) I’m thinking I’ll be taking some Day-Quil before I go and I’ll be hoping and praying that I don’t get the need to sneeze when the dentist has “Mr. Drill” in my mouth.  I’m already nervous about the process (dentists in general scare me…and for no real reason other than I’m afraid it will hurt) and the fact that I’m sick makes me all the more uneasy.

Despite the sickness that’s plaguing me, I have been pretty productive on the crochet front. I’ve managed to almost finish the big “craft” bag I was working on. It’s huge! I just have to attach the final strap. I think I’ll do that tomorrow afternoon while Bug is eating lunch and I’m waiting for the numbness to wear off. I’m hoping I can use it tomorrow for craft night. I’m not sure if my friend is going to want me to work on a baby blanket for a friend of hers so it would be good to have a big bag to bring home extra yarn. I think I may actually pick up Darling Hubby’s sweater again, if I don’t have the baby blanket to work on. I kinda want something mindless (the sweater is something I really have to put some concentration into), but I’ve been putting it off for a long time and since I don’t have anything pressing that needs to get done, I should pick it up and take it from WIP (work in progress) to FO (finished object).

Anyway, a friend on LiveJournal did this meme and since I’m bored, I thought I’d give it a go…

You are The High Priestess

Science, Wisdom, Knowledge, Education.

The High Priestess is the card of knowledge, instinctual, supernatural, secret knowledge. She holds scrolls of arcane information that she might, or might not reveal to you. The moon crown on her head as well as the crescent by her foot indicates her willingness to illuminate what you otherwise might not see, reveal the secrets you need to know. The High Priestess is also associated with the moon however and can also indicate change or fluctuation, particularly when it comes to your moods.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

Back to watching dumb people on tv…a show called Hole in the Wall. It’s amazing how people will publicly humiliate themselves on national tv for money…sad.

Things I’ve Done

My friend Rachelle tagged me in a meme that she did last month and since I’m not really feeling like doing much, other than sitting on the couch with a box of tissues (stupid head cold) I figured I’d give it a quick go.  I’m not going to tag anyone…mainly cause I’m being lazy today, but if you want to do it…consider yourself tagged!

Copy and paste the list below into your own post, and then make bold (and/or italicize) all the things you have done.

My Rainbow

I saw this both on Shannon and Suzy’s blogs in the past 2 days and figured since I had a moment that I’d see what my rainbow colors were. Turns out I’m more than one color…who knew?

Your rainbow is intensely shaded indigo, yellow, and blue.

What is says about you: You are a joyful person. You appreciate friends who get along with one another. You share hobbies with friends and like trying to fit into their routines. Friends count on you for being honest and insightful.

Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.

Better get some lunch and get to work crocheting. I’ve almost finished one convertible mitten! Yahoo!

About Me Meme

Annie tagged me with yet another About Me Meme, so here goes….A. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning.
B. Each player answers the questions about themselves.
C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and post their names, then goes to the blogs and leaves them a comment letting them know they’ve been tagged.

What I was doing 10 years ago: Ten years ago I was still living at home finishing up my senior year of high school, planning where to live with Darling Hubby after graduating and getting ready for life away from home at college. I really think that in March we were on or had just come back from our Marching Band trip to Florida (Disney World) for the Magic Music Days.

5 Things on my To Do list today: Since I’m posting this at night and really have nothing left to do, I’ll post what’s on my list for Friday…Do Bug’s laundry and fold and put away all the dried laundry from Wednesday, make a menu and plan out a grocery list, call our mortgage lender and tell them we are refinancing and to put a hold on taking May’s payment out of our bank account, do the dishes and make dinner.

Snacks I enjoy: I’m a big chocolate fan so pretty much any chocolate I will eat it. I also love ice cream. In fact, I’m thinking about having a bowl of mint chocolate chip before watching tv and going to bed

Things I would do if I were a Billionaire: I’d pay off all our debt (house, car, credit card), invest some, put some away for a rainy day, and of course spend some frivolously on things that I don’t really need or want.

3 of my Bad Habits: I used to bite my nails all the time, right down to the nub. I’ve gotten better about not chewing them to pieces, but I still have my fingernails in my mouth all the time. I have a hard time keeping our kitchen counters uncluttered. They seem to be the catch all area for crap. I need motivation to clean them off. I watch too much tv. I record a lot of things and then never find time to actually watch them.

5 places I have lived: I have only ever lived in 3 places. With my parents from birth through 18. I moved out about a week after my 18th birthday and 2 days after graduation. I lived in an apartment in the city we currently still live in with Darling Hubby from 1998-2003 when we bought our house.

5 jobs I have had: I’m kinda low on the whole job experience front…I never worked in high school. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to, it was that I didn’t really need to. I still got an allowance and I’d saved money for things that I wanted to buy…My first ever, real paying job was working as a Student Assistant (work study) at the library at college. I made minimum wage and only worked 6.5 hours a week. I then was hired full time as the Circulation Coordinator in 2000 where I made a bit more than minimum wage and had benefits. After Bug was born, I worked at the library on a temp basis when they were in a bind and after that I worked for a year babysitting Baby Girl. Currently, I’m a stay at home mom. I don’t get paid and most days I’m happy with the job I do despite the lack of income. Most times I feel bad that I’m not contributing to our coffers, but I think that Darling Hubby would rather me be home giving Bug good care then him being stuck in some day care where who knows what kind of care he would receive and me being unhappy stuck in some dead end job….I digress…

Ok, I’m not tagging anyone specifically because, well, I’m tired and don’t feel like thinking about who to tag and that bowl of ice cream is calling my name and I really want to eat it before it gets too late…so, if you are reading this and have the time, consider yourself tagged!

What’s in a Middle Name?

I was tagged by my good friend Annie on this middle name tag, so here goes.

1) You must post these rules on your blog before you answer the questions.

2) You need to list one fact about yourself using each letter of your MIDDLE name. If you don’t have a middle name use your maiden name instead.

3) When you are finished with your answers, you need to tag one person for each letter of your middle name.

ELIZABETH

E – I like helping to save the Environment. I use cloth bags at the grocery stores most times to cut back on the number of plastic bags my grocery store seems to go through. I hang dry my clothes to cut back on the amount of natural gas I use (this also cuts back on my gas bill) and I recycle, even when it seems a little silly. I recycle every scrap of cardboard, every tin can, bottle, and jar I can. We always take our soda bottles and cans back for the refund.

L -I’m a Listener. Just ask all the girls who worked for me when I was still at the library. One girl, Rory, called me her bartender as I always had an ear to lend and if I had a helping hand, I’d lend that, too.

I – Easily Irritated – Sometimes little things just irritate the crap out of me.

ZZodiac. My sign is Cancer. Yep, the crab. Have you ever noticed that the symbol for Cancer looks like the number 69 backwards and on it’s side? Just putting that out there…

Cancer sign

AAtheist – Not many people know this about me as I don’t go spreading it around, but I’m not a big religion person…never really have been, even though I was raised attending a Baptist church. I’ve read the stories in the bible and to me they are just that, stories. I’m more of the scientific believer that the universe, the planet and plants and animals were created naturally through evolution rather than believing that an invisible being created everything in a week. In my mind, this just doesn’t seem possible. However, I want to say that I am very accepting to what other believe, so if you do believe in God then fine. It if brings you comfort and joy then I support you in your decision. I don’t mind when people ask for prayers for loved ones in their life as this brings them comfort. I am just not the prayer type. Don’t get me wrong, I am respectful of others who practice religion, like bowing my head at meals and in churches for weddings/funerals. I am just not accepting of those who feel the need to push their beliefs on me, like the Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons that feel the need to interrupt my peaceful Saturdays and littering my doorstep with their literature (which does make good fire starter.) I hope this doesn’t change any feelings that my friends have toward me as it doesn’t change my view of others. I kinda feel better getting that out there.

B Books, I LOVE ‘EM! Sometimes I just need to curl up on the couch with a good book for much of the day. I’m almost done with High Noon…I’m not sure what I’m going to read after that…I’ve got so many choices.

E – I love to Eat, espcially junk food. It’s a wonder I don’t weigh more than I do.

T Television…I’m addicted. I watch too many shows. I even DVR my soaps so I can watch them later.

H Hobbies – my favorite crafty things to do are Crochet, Scrapbook, Knit, and Quilt/Sew

Ok, there you have it. There’s my list of things according to my middle name. I really hope I haven’t offended anyone with it…If I have, please tell me. I don’t want to make waves and loose my readers…what few I have… I’m not going to tag anyone cause, well, I’m just not going to…I leave it up to you if you want to continue on the middle name goodness.

7 Things About Me Meme

I was tagged by my good friend Suzy so here goes! I’ll try not to repeat any of the other 752 things I’ve already spilled about myself…lol

Here are the rules…

  • When tagged place the name and URL on your blog.
  • Post rules on your blog.
  • Write 6 (or 7) non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
  • Name 6 (or 7) of your favorite blogs.
  • Send an email/comment on their blog letting them know they have been tagged.
  1. I love veggies…all, that is, except peppers, onions and beets. I will eat the peppers and onions in spaghetti sauce provided they’ve been cooked to near non existence. I just can’t eat them raw. I’ve never liked beets…
  2. I love to count down to big things like trips. When I was in school I could tell you on any given day how many days were left ’til marching band trips and graduation. I still do this a little today, although I don’t have much to count down to anymore.
  3. I’m a Disney girl. I’d love to go back to Disney World. I’m sure Bug would love it. We’ll just have to wait until he’s a little older and can enjoy more of the whole experience.
  4. I’m notorious for forgetting to water my house plants. Thing is…they just don’t die. I’ve got a jade plant that really only needs to be watered every couple months, a dinosaur plant that just curls up and waits patiently until I water it again…it can go for months (50 years actually) at a time. And my spider plant and aloe plant really just live on…Thankfully the bamboo plant Annie brought me only needs to be watered once a month! Hopefully I don’t kill that!
  5. I’ve got too many projects and books going on at once and I want to start more. I’m trying to finish up High Noon by Nora Roberts that Annie let me borrow when she came up to visit. I have an entire shelf of books that calling me to start reading them. I’m working on a stuffed crochet lion for Bug that is more time consuming that I first anticipated. I have a ton of other crochet projects that are floating around in my brain just waiting to be started and I just don’t have the time or the $$ to start them…I’d love to start knitting again so I can try to get better so I can make Darling Hubby a Fisherman Knit sweater for Christmas, but I just don’t see that happening…sigh I’m just not that good at knitting and it’s kind of deterring me from starting something, even small, like a scarf.
  6. I’m kinda annoyed that Easter is in March this year. For some reason, I prefer Easter to fall in April. I guess it’s because I want the weather to be a little nicer and a little warmer so Bug can participate in the easter egg hunt at Grandpa’s and not be cold. It’s no fun when it’s so cold or wet or snowing that it has to be done inside. I remember when I was little, I’d want to have egg hunts randomly throughout the year, not just on Easter, and would want my dad to hide the eggs around our house so I could find them.
  7. I still need to go through Bug’s toys and pull out the ones that he no longer plays with and put them in storage or give them away. I also need to cull through all the HeroClix that Darling Hubby has given him and pull the broken ones and see if I can get the basket down to a manageable size….I’m finding minis everywhere and I’m starting to suck bits up in the vacuum…That’s not good for the minis or my vacuum.

Ok, so I’m not tagging anyone in particular. If you are reading this and want to add your 7 things to the blogging world, have at it!

More Weird Things About Me

So apparently my friend Annie feels that I don’t have enough blog material so she’s tagged me with another weird things about me meme.

Here’s the deal…Once you are tagged, link back to the person who tagged you. Post these instructions on your blog.

  • Post 7 random or weird facts about yourself on your blog (the weirder the better, if you ask me).
  • Tag 7 people and link to them even if you think they won’t do it.
  • Comment on their blog to let them know they have been tagged and hunt them down if you have to.

These are the rules to follow, so I will be giving my facts and tagging some others. If you have already been tagged, oops, I guess I just want to know more facts about you.

  1. I used to collect porcelain dolls and carousel horses. I still have all of them, I just don’t add to the collection anymore. All my dolls are still at my parents house on shelves in the guest room and all the horses are in my curio cabinet in my dining room.
  2. I have issues eating certain leftovers. I can eat left over pasta and some soups, but most of the time I can’t bring myself to eat left over meat.
  3. I clean better when I’m angry. If Darling Hubby and I have had a fight and I want to stay away from him, I’ll go clean. It gets my frustrations out and I generally feel better when I’m done and my house is a little bit cleaner. Maybe I need some of that motivation most days…
  4. I enjoy watching cartoons…even if Bug isn’t watching them with me.  I enjoy most kids shows, but just can’t stand watching most things on Nick (Dora, Diego, Backyardigans, Spongebob).  I refuse to watch these, let Bug watch them, and really play with the toys.  I’m a Disney and PBS girl.
  5. I don’t wear make-up.  I’ve never found anything that I could wear for longer than a couple hours that doesn’t clog my pores and I really don’t care to take the time to smear all that crap on my face.  I think I look ok without covering up all the little imperfections and Darling Hubby thinks I look just fine.
  6. Speaking of imperfections, I have a couple small scars on the right side of my face (near my nose and side of my mouth) from when I was bitten my my own dog when I was 3 years old.  It doesn’t bother me anymore.
  7. When I watch a movie with dancing in it (like Dirty Dancing) I always wish I could dance as well as the people on the screen.

Annie has also tagged me with a Food meme…

Rules:

  • Link to your tagger and post these rules.
  • Share 5 facts about yourself.
  • Tag 5 people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them)
  • Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment at their blogs
  1. After I wash the dishes, I have to wash my hands again.  I know I’ve just had my hand submerged in hot soapy water, but my hands just aren’t “clean” until I wash them one more time.
  2. I’ve only recently purchased a bread machine and I’ve enjoyed the ease of making loaves of fresh bread and the yummy-ness.
  3. I can’t stand eating or drinking anything that had splenda or fake sugar in it.  It just has a nasty taste to it.  If it doesn’t have regular old sugar in it…you won’t see my eating it.
  4. I am a tea drinker. I tried coffee…my parents were coffee drinkers…I just couldn’t get used to the taste…even with a ton and a half of sugar in it.  I prefer my tea with honey and milk, but I will take it with sugar or lemon.  And Ive never really gotten a taste for all those gourmet teas.  Give me plain old Orange Pekoe any day.
  5. I am a very messy cook. Darling Hubby finds it very funny that I’ll have more flour on me and my clothing and my counter and floor.  I never remember to wear an apron.

I’m gonna take the lazy way out and just say that if you are reading this and want to do the meme, then by all means, take a crack at it.  I’ve spent more than 2 weeks on this and I’m tired of having it hanging around as a half finished draft.

A Quirky Meme

My friend Annie over at Fried PorkChop has bestowed me (amongst other things that I will get to later) with the great task of a meme…well, here goes…

The directions:
(1) Link to the person that tagged you.
(2) Post the rules on your blog.
(3) Share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself.
(4) Tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs.
(5) Let each random person know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their website.

(ONE) I once collected TY Beanie Babies…yes, I’ll admit it…I was a beanie baby junkie…I was a member of their beanie board and stalked it on occasion. It was like a drug high (although I’ve never actually been high on drugs, so I really wouldn’t know what feels like, but I can assume) when I came across some new ones in the store that I didn’t have in my collection. I HAD THEM ALL for a while. Slowly that phase in my life petered out. I’ve boxed some of the ones that I really liked and put them away. I’ve sold a few and donated some. I’ve moved on to collecting Eeyores…although I haven’t felt the need to buy EVERY SINGLE ONE I SEE in a while.

(TWO) I DVR my soaps so I can watch them later. I only watch All My Children and One Life to Live, but AMC falls right when I put Bug down for his nap so I’ll watch OLTL and then go back and watch AMC. I need to know what’s happening in Pine Valley and Llanview.

(THREE) Like Annie, I sometimes I wish I could go back and do some of my high school career over again. I wouldn’t be as serious as I was all the time. I wouldn’t always have my nose in a book or be teachers pet (come on, I really liked being the teachers pet). I think the one thing I wouldn’t change would be my time spent in band. I really think that helped define me. My memories in band are the what remind me I was happy in HS.

(FOUR) I hate to be late to meetings or appointments so I’m always at least 10-15 minutes early. When I was in high school I’d always arrive to marching band practice at least 30 minutes early. I’m a clock watcher, too. If things aren’t on time by my watch it drives me crazy.

(FIVE) I sometimes count my steps when I’m walking. I always count my steps when I’m going up or down the stairs, esp in the dark so I know where I am and I don’t fall. I sometimes count to help me fall asleep.

(SIX) I hate when my grocery list isn’t neat. If too many things have been written in badly (i.e. the handwriting is bad) or things have been crossed off, I have to rewrite the whole thing. I like pages to be neat and tidy.

Ok, there we have it…six random things no one should really know about me! lol Here are the people I’m tagging… Shannon, Corey, Stacie, Lori, Meghan and Keara

Holiday Hoopla!

I wasn’t specifically tagged by anyone for this, but since Christmas is my favorite holiday, I thought I’d join in the fun.

Rules
1. List 12 random things about yourself that have to do with Christmas

2. Please refer to it as a ‘hoopla’ and not the dreaded ‘m’-word (which, for you bloggy newbies, is meme)

3. You have to specifically tag people when you’re done. None of this “if you’re reading this, consider yourself tagged” stuff is allowed…then nobody ends up actually doing it. The number of people who you tag is really up to you — but the more, the merrier to get this ‘hoopla’ circulating through the blogosphere.

4. Please try and do it as quickly as possible. The Christmas season will be over before we know it and I’d like to get as many people involved as possible.

Let the randomness begin!

1. My parents planted a pine tree in the front of my house when I was born. Every year we’d hang lights on that tree to help Rudolph find his way to my house. I could reach the top of it at one point. Now it’s so tall I can’t see the top of it when looking out the front door anymore.

2. One of my greatest Christmas memories was watching the Santa Bear cartoon on Christmas Eve before going to bed. I decided that I really wanted a stuffed Santa Bear that year and so I left a note with the hot chocolate (Santa needed something to warm him up) and cookies asking Santa if he had an extra one would he leave it for me. The next morning there was a Santa Bear under the tree with a note from Santa saying he found an extra on in the sleight. I very much believed in Santa that year.

3. My mom used to tell me that if there was something I wanted for Christmas and she bought it, we had to leave it for Santa’s elves to come pick up so he could bring it for me on Christmas Eve. One year she bought me a brown teddy bear and we left it out on the dryer in the back room for the elves to come pick up. A little while later I checked on the dryer and the bear was gone. I really thought elves picked it up. Turns out, mom tossed it into the dryer hoping I wouldn’t check for it.

4. My parents would only set up the Christmas tree the week before Christmas and take it down the week after. Now I set up my tree the day after Thanksgiving and leave it up until New Years.

5. I’m looking forward to those handmade ornaments Bug will bring home from school. I still have most of the ornaments I made in school, even thought they are not on my tree.

6. When I got married my mom gave me the big box of Christmas ornaments that we had collected over the years. I’m talking those old glass balls, and bags of tinsel, strings of lights (those big bulbed ones and the little ones, too). I finally went through it all last year and tossed a bunch of stuff that was broken or I just wouldn’t (or shouldn’t because it was a fire hazard) use. I still feel guilty about that. I did keep a few things like the glass Christmas tree topper my parents had for years, but never used…

7. I love getting Christmas cards in the mail every year and string them above my mantel with a string tied between 2 wall sconces and mini clothes pins from my baby shower.

8. I mail out as many cards as possible, but if I’ll see you before Christmas, prepare to have a hand delivered card. I’m kind of a cheapskate.

9. On of my favorite Christmas presents was when I was 3 years old. I got a Fisher Price Little People House. I played with that thing for hours. Now I’ve recently passed it down, along with my Farm and Merry-go-round to Bug. I hope he enjoys the hours of fun I had with that house.

10. I grew up with a wood burning fireplace, but my parents always said it was difficult for Santa to get out of the fireplace since it basically locked from the outside. We used to leave our front door unlocked so Santa could get in easier. We lived out in the country where there was no one around and Dad locked the door as soon as Mom had me in bed, but still. Since we, too, have a fireplace that latches from the outside and don’t want to teach that leaving our door unlocked is ok, we created a Magic Key to leave for Santa. We are going to give it to Bug this year and every year we will put it outside by the front door so Santa can let himself in.

11. My favorite holiday treat is Hot Chocolate. I recently found an awesome recipe for Hot Chocolate that I modified for my taste. I’m thinking a cup sounds mighty good with lunch on this cold snowy day.

12. I hate coming up with a list of things that I want for Christmas, even though it makes it easier on those who want to buy for me. I always feel greedy by asking for things that I normally wouldn’t buy for myself. And Darling Hubby is so hard to buy for. I don’t like to buy things from his list because I feel like I didn’t put any effort or thought into it. I always feel like I have to top the gift from last year…but I know that’s just silly and I really don’t try to do that anymore. I’ve never been able to top the $300 Lego Star Destroyer I bought him in 2003.

I’m tagging Annie and Shell, since they are blogger newbies and need to have a bit of Hoopla to really get them initiated to the blogging world.

The Dreaded 8 Things Meme!
